I learned some valuable lessons today at a nursing home. I got a better idea of what it might look like for God to pursue people: people who may be unresponsive, or antagonistic, and how much He yearns for them to understand and obey, and how much love there is in that.
I thought a lot about the kind of people Jesus would have been around. People who seem to not be "there" mentally. Or who cannot care for themselves. And I saw today God's image reflected in the faces of these precious people, and I felt deep love for them. It hurt my heart to think that they are so often overlooked in society, devalued, and uncared for.
Finally, I discovered that the simplest connection can be transmitted through a hug. A smile. Eye contact. A simple gesture. And often, more often than not, that love is received.
